SKG-rated cylinders

In the Netherlands, the SKG star rating is the standard you should care about.

  • SKG* — basic protection, suitable only for interior doors
  • SKG** — solid protection, the minimum for any front door
  • SKG*** — premium protection, recommended for all entry doors

Multi-point locks

A multi-point lock engages the door at three or five points along the frame instead of just one. Combined with an SKG*** cylinder this is the gold standard for residential entry doors and is required for full PKVW compliance.

Smart locks — useful, but read the fine print

Smart locks add convenience (remote access, time-limited codes) but the underlying mechanical lock still needs to be SKG-rated. Choose smart locks that retrofit on top of a certified cylinder rather than replacing it.

Top brands we recommend

M&C, Nemef, S2skg and Mauer are the brands we install most often in Amsterdam — proven, durable and widely supported by Dutch insurers.
